Departure
"Don't be a fool," Lupin said, very low and solemn. "It is not your safety from Lord Maximilien I fear for. There are others - "
She could feel Alistair's tension and straight posture. He seemed to grow taller before her. She felt his gaze on her. She riveted her entire focus on his departunre, his leaving the house - whther with her or without her it mattered not. She was so intent, so focused, she seemed to be leaning closer, closer, until she brushed against him. IN that instant, he caught her close and hared, ans she could not help but enjoy his embrace. She disappeared into it. In but a moment, however, she struggled free a little. "Damn you, Alistair," she bit out, "you must LEAVE!"
He pulled back from her but slightly. "Not alone."
Shaking her head, it slowed, and she nodded. "I will be with you," she stated slowly and deliberately. And, she decided within, she would find a way to somehow protect him.
He led her down dark halls and corridors, surely and swiftly. Shadowed passages seemed to open before them.
He held tight her arm, keeping her close, it seemed lest she slip away. He need not have feared. She was with him now, and would be as long as she was able.
They descended a set of narrow stairs and Lupin found herself led to a cobbled, dark street corner, damp and echoing from the evening rains. The atmosphere was damp and dusky, yet somehow clear.
Lord Grefham gestured slightly , and dark carriage rolled to them, anonymous, yet obviously luxurious. He handed Lupin in almost without looking at her, then stepped in himself, and with a curt word they departed in all haste.
